Action - Faith without Works is Dead
I have never heard anything about the resolutions of the apostles, but a good deal about the Acts of the apostles.
Horace Mann
You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
Eleanor Roosevelt
What's done can't be undone. (the good or bad, gsa)
Heaven ne'er helps the men who will not act.

We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done.
A buried talent is never a buried treasure. Talents become treasures only through use.
They are able because they think they are able.

When a man can't be depended on it is because his vessel has too many holes.
Old Saying

Where is God in all this turmoil?
Can two walk together, except they be agreed,
Amos 3:3

We never have what is needed
Youth has worth to the older, but owned by the younger
Wisdom has worth to the older and younger and owned by neither
Maturity has worth to the older, and too late owned by the older

Why are you doing all this?
It is not all the good stuff we do, but what are we doing for Jesus.

Why are you hanging around Jesus?
No, really, why?
Is it for spirituality maturity?

Most believe that the human being is complex.
People initiated this error to justify their inability to improve their character or the belief that it is not necessary.
Complexity enters the equation from observations of the many insignificant gains and failures which have their origin from the simple noun and verb: sin.
Complexities show up when people say: "It is not my fault, I couldn't help it. I was born with this malady or inability or circumstances.

The flesh believes that nothing is more important than talent.
Morals have very little value.

Live the Truth
Living a deception will not make it true.

Live like you are saved
You may be saved from hell, but are you living like you are still going there?

Legalism is not in the Bible, so is not defined by the Bible.
have you assigned your own definition.

If we would only give, just once,
the same amount of reflection
to what we want to get out of life
that we give to the question
of what to do with a two weeks' vacation,
we would be startled at our false standards
and the aimless procession of our busy days.

Dorothy Canfield Fisher

Freedom, Means
Freedom is not worth fighting for
if it means no more than license
for everyone to get
as much as he can get for himself.
Dorothy Canfield Fisher

To bless God for mercies
Is to increase them
To bless God for miseries
Is to remove them
William Dyer

Blessings are sweetest
When won with prayers
And worn with thanks
Thomas Goodwin

Burden or Builder
Righteous is not the
Christian's Freight
But his Ballast
To be used to Poise
Not Load the Vessel

Christ, Cheapening
Judas sold Jesus
For thirty pieces of silver
How much less
Did you today

Following after
Produces little production
gsa - Prov 28.19

The Conscience
is Judicial, not Legislative
It determines
Right from Wrong
But, does not determine
Right and Wrong
Curtis Hutson

Ordinary sin worsens to evil
As the sinner conspires
with others

Cost of Emotion
No one can afford
The luxury of

Though the tongue
Is not made of steel
It can be very sharp

A man would not wrongfully
Take with the hand
If he had not wrongfully
Desired with the heart

for most sin

Is trusting with doubt
Is trusting with assurance
Is trusting with assured commitment to others
gsa - 1st Cor 13:13

Faith has two meanings:
1. Truth or Doctrine
 2. Acting on the first

The faithful are given
The faithful in one accord
are given Stewardship

The only true fellowship
Is from us
Through Christ
To others

Financially Wise
Live on what you earn
Not on what you own

As we despise the serpent
For its poison
Loath the flesh
For its sin

Sin is not so bad in the having
As it is in the loving

That you have forgiven
By forgiving them now
For even the next time

Risk of value
Without trusting in the Lord
Creates gambling

Someone recently studied the lives
Of twenty geniuses and found

3. They were encouraged to use
their imaginations in problem solving

Grace - Power
Tap the power
That made the universe
Walk with Jesus

Gratitude, True
The truly thankful Are thankful

Horses are led by bridles
Fishes are led by lures
Most men are led by covetousness

Hawk or Dove
More is lost in neutrality
Than by confrontation

Hear and Heed
All in the church may
Hear the Word of Christ
But few hear Christ in the Word

The honest saint
Can not pretend
Knowing sin is in all
At which he tends

Hope sees the invisible
Feels the intangible
Achieves the impossible

Christians may judge others
For sin
No one may judge
for intentions

Excuses, alibis and exaggerations
Are the tropical storms
Before the hurricanes of reality

Kidding Self
Leading all faults
Is the notion
You have none

 4. Inspect the plan

Who ran to help me
When I fell
And would some healing
Story tell
Or kiss the place
To make it well

Not So Bad
Why is it
Most think it is worse
To speak evil
Than to listen to it or watch it

Not what you think
Sin promises silk and fur
Sin delivers nakedness

Sin does not attach
As we go by
But is developed
From within

Excess converts
The acceptable
Into the except-able

Eternity is a sea
Without bottom or bank
No shore to stake
No base to fathom

Precious to Pork
Any stray lamb
May stray into a ditch
But they become pigs
That wallow there

The cost of Righteousness Fades
To the Cost of Sin

Others swell

From a good work
He labors by all means
To make us proud of it

Goals are not our purpose
Goals are measurements we set
To manage our purposes

Christ cannot be Sweet

Sin cannot be cast out

Their Sins Covered
Rather than Cured

While Contentment
makes poor men rich

Few mourn staying quiet

Spirituality is the way
To separation

The lost sinner
Will be aware
of truth later

Worry - Concern
Concern takes it to the Lord
Worry takes it back

Worry like hate and anger
Cannot repair, change or prevent a problem
But will exhaust the worrier

I thought I got this
We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics.
I understand this.
But, we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Now I am confused.

So that is how it works
Seems we constantly hear about how Social security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare running out of money?
What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second didn't. So if you do not work, there will always be money for you.

1. Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch and the restroom will call.

2. Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.

3. Law of Probability- The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

4. Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal and someone always answers.

5. Supermarket Law - As soon as you get in the smallest line, the cashier will have to call for help.

6. Variation Law -If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will always move faster than the one you are in now.

7. Law of the Bath - When the body is fully covered in water, the telephone rings.

8. Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.

9. Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.

10. Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.

11. Law of the Theater & Hockey Arena - At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle, always arrive last. They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk.

12. The Coffee Law - As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.

13. Murphy's Law of Lockers - If there are only 2 people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.

14. Law of Physical Surfaces - The chances of an open-faced jam sandwich landing face down on a floor, are directly correlated to the newness and cost of the carpet or rug.

15. Law of Logical Argument-Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

16. Brown's Law of Physical Appearance - If the clothes fit, they're ugly.

16a. Brown's Law of Physical Appearance - If the clothes fit, they are on someone else.

17. Oliver's Law of Public Speaking- A closed mouth gathers no feet.

18. Wilson's Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy -As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it.

19. Doctors' Law- If you don't feel well, make an appointment to go to the doctor, by the time you get there you'll feel better... But don't make an appointment, and you'll stay sick. This has been proven over and over with taking children to the pediatrician.

Don't let your worries get the best of you;
Remember, Moses started out as a basket case.

Some people are kind, polite, and sweet-spirited
Until you try to sit in their pews.

Many folks want to serve God
But only as advisers.

It is easier to preach ten sermons
Than it is to live one.

The good Lord didn't create anything without a purpose
But mosquitoes come close.

When you get to your wit's end
You'll find God lives there.

People are funny; they want the front of the bus
Middle of the road
And back of the church.

Opportunity may knock once
But temptation bangs on the front door forever.

Quit griping about your church
If it was perfect, you couldn't belong.

If a church wants a better pastor
It only needs to pray for the one it has.

We're called to be witnesses
Not Prosecuting Lawyers or Judges.

God Himself doesn't propose to judge a man until he is dead.
So why should you?

Some minds are like concrete
Thoroughly mixed up and permanently set.

I don't know why some people change churches
What difference does it make which one you stay home from?

Be ye fishers of men.
You catch 'em - He'll clean 'em.

Stop, Drop, and Roll
won't work in the Lake of Fire..

Coincidence is when
God chooses to remain anonymous.

Don't put a question mark
where God put a period.

Don't wait for 6 strong men
to take you to church.

Forbidden fruits
create many jams.

God doesn't call the qualified
He qualifies the called.

God grades on the cross
not the curve.

God loves everyone,
But probably prefers 'fruits of the spirit'
over 'religious nuts!'

God promises a safe landing
Not a calm passage.

He whom you allow to anger you
Controls you!

If God is your Co-pilot
Swap seats!

Don't give God instructions
Just report for duty!

The task ahead of us
Is never as great
As the Power behind us.

The Will of God
Never takes you
To where the Grace of God
Will not protect you.

We don't change the message
The message changes us.

You can tell how big a person is
By what it takes to discourage him/her.

The best mathematical equation I have ever seen:
1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given.

There is no greater treasure
Than good friends & family!

Free Stuff
The folks who are getting the free stuff don't like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because …
1. the folks who are paying for the free stuff do not want to pay for more free stuff for the folks receiving the free stuff
2. the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.
3. the folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop.
And the folks who are getting the free stuff think they deserve even a larger quantity of the free stuff they are already getting.
Some of the folks receiving the free stuff are even selling some of their free stuff, so they can buy stuff that is not free and in some cases even illegal.
Now... the people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff and who do not participate in giving free stuff have told the people who are receiving the free stuff that the people who are paying for the free stuff are being mean, hateful, prejudiced, racist and even stingy with the free stuff.
So... the people who are getting the free stuff have been convinced by the people who are forcing some people to pay for the free stuff they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff and giving them the free stuff in the first place, making them sub-servant.
The people who force the giving of the free stuff have let the free stuff giving go on for so long …
1. that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff,
2. that those receiving the free stuff cannot continue the free stuff life style unless they have more of the free stuff,
3. that those receiving the free stuff think that there is a lot more in life that ought to be part of the free stuff.

Afflictions, Though They Seem Severe
Afflictions, though they seem severe;
In mercy oft are sent;
They stopped the prodigal’s career,
And forced him to repent.

Although he no relentings felt
Till he had spent his store;
His stubborn heart began to melt
When famine pinched him sore.

“What have I gained by sin, he said,
But hunger, shame, and fear;
My father’s house abounds with bread,
While I am starving here.

I’ll go, and tell him all I’ve done,
And fall before his face
Unworthy to be called his son,
I’ll seek a servant’s place.

His father saw him coming back,
He saw, and ran, and smiled;
And threw his arms around the neck
Of his rebellious child.

Father, I’ve sinned—but O forgive!
I’ve heard enough, he said,
“Rejoice my house, my son’s alive,
For whom I mourned as dead.

Now let the fatted calf be slain,
And spread the news around;
My son was dead, but lives again,
Was lost, but now is found.

’Tis thus the Lord His love reveals,
To call poor sinners home;
More than a father’s love He feels,
And welcomes all that come.
John Newton
Author of Amazing Grace

Afflictions Do Not Come Alone

Afflictions do not come alone,
A voice attends the rod;
By both He to His saints is known,
A Father and a God!

Let not My children slight the stroke
I for chastisement send;
Nor faint beneath My kind rebuke,
For still I am their friend.

The wicked I perhaps may leave
Awhile, and not reprove;
But all the children I receive
I scourge, because I love.

If therefore you were left without
This needful discipline;
You might, with cause, admit a doubt,
If you, indeed, were Mine.

Shall earthly parents then expect
Their children to submit?
And wilt not you, when I correct,
Be humbled at My feet?

To please themselves they oft chastise,
And put their sons to pain;
But you are precious in My eyes,
And shall not smart in vain.

I see your hearts, at present, filled
With grief, and deep distress;
But soon these bitter seeds shall yield
The fruits of righteousness.

Break through the clouds, dear Lord, and shine!
Let us perceive Thee nigh!
And to each mourning child of Thine
These gracious words apply.
John Newton
Author of Amazing Grace

I finally received my tax return for 2012 back from the IRS. Puzzling!

They are questioning how many dependents I claimed.
I guess it was because of my response to the question:
"List all dependents."
I replied ...
* 12 million illegal immigrants;

* 3 million crack heads;
* 42 million people on food stamps,
* 2 million people in over 243 prisons; and
* 535 persons in the U.S. House and Senate, plus
* 1 useless
Evidently, this was NOT an acceptable answer.
I keep asking myself, who did I miss?

The Business of the Church and every Christian
1. Knowing Jesus better
2. Making Jesus known to others
Neither of the above are to be done at the expense of the other.

  • Time Is a Stream
    Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains.
    (Henry David Thoreau, Walden)

  • Time Is a River
    Time is a flowing river. Happy those who allow themselves to be carried, unresisting, with the current. They float through easy days. They live, unquestioning, in the moment.
    Christopher Morley, Where the Blue Begins

    “With free-will, any choice or preference can be made to do, or not do, but the consequences will be dictated.”

  • Time Is an Equal-Opportunity Employer
    Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours; scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.
    Denis Waitely, The Joy of Working

  • Time Is a Miser
    Old Time, in whose banks we deposit our notes
    Is a miser who always wants guineas for groats;
    He keeps all his customers still in arrears
    By lending them minutes and charging them years.
    Oliver Wendell Holmes, "Our Banker"

  • Time Is a Coin
    Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.
    Carl Sandburg

  • Time Is Money
    Yesterday is a canceled check; tomorrow is a promissory note; today is the only cash you have, so spend it wisely.

  • Time Is a Fixed Income
    Time is a fixed income and, as with any income, the real problem facing most of us is how to live successfully within our daily allotment.
    Margaret B. Johnstone

  • Time Is a School and a Fire
    What am I now that I was then?
    May memory restore again and again
    The smallest color of the smallest day:

  • Time Is an Arrow
    Time is an irreversible arrow, and we can never return to the self that we sloughed off in childhood or adolescence. The man trying to wear youth's carefree clothing, the woman costuming her emotions in doll's dresses--these are pathetic figures who want to reverse time's arrow.

    If God directs, He empowers
    1. The Lord says do it
    2. Obedience to Him is humbling

    True vs New
    Whatever is new is not true
    Whatever is true is not new
    Ever notice how science has always got a NEW theory?
    Ever notice how science is always saying, "We used to believe ...". They always are placing their faith in the latest idea, to find out the next day a new idea in which to place their faith. This sounds exactly like heathen religions.

    Father must I go work?
    No my lucky son.
    We are living now on easy street
    With dough from Washington.

    We’ve left it up to Uncle Sam,
    So don’t get exercised.
    Nobody has to earn his ham
    We’ve all been subsidized.

    But if our uncle treats us all so well
    And feeds us milk and honey,
    Please, Daddy, won’t you tell
    What he is going to use for money?

    Don’t worry Bub, there’s not a hitch
    In this here noble plan
    He simply soaks the filthy rich
    And gives to the common man

    But, father, won’t there come a time
    When they run out of cash
    And we have left them not a dime
    Then things will go to smash?

    My faith in you failing, son,

    When giving to God, He keeps nothing, having no pockets, bank accounts, basements, attics or storage lockers. He does not even have keys to ensure possession. What He does not have to give, He takes from the non-giver or creates from nothing.

    The whole point of personal business ...
    is not ownership
    it is stewardship
    Ownership does not pay. The thing owned can be of no value or can become of no value.
    Stewardship adds value to all things, whether owned or not. Stewardship evens adds value to the steward.
    Thus, importance is not in owning, but laboring.

    Washing Machine
    A seven year old boy was sent home from school. A tornado hit the home. The father arrived at the home only to see a Washer left standing. Immediately the father asked God, why leave me with just a Washer. Instantly the boy cried out, "Dad, I am in the Washer?"
    God has a Washer for you and after everything is gone, just you and Jesus will be all that remains.

    No point in worrying about lightning, since if it hits you, you will never see it or hear it.

    "Music is my higher power"
    Oliver James
    Oh gosh, Ollie, you are so deep, so profound, so ... You sound like an old hippy. No, an old, old hippy. Who were you the drummer for, the Neon Opossum? Or did you play lead guitar for the Spelunking Ostrich.
    So much for sarcasm. Forgive me. I tried to resist, but food, my higher power, got the best of me and I filled up on cooked goose.
    For something or someone to be a higher power, it would need to be higher. Music is not higher than man. Music is for man. Man writes it, for Pete's sake.
    Ollie, have you been listening to Country and Western stations?

    "Religion is like a pair of shoes.....Find one that fits for you, but don't make me wear your shoes."
    George Carlin
    George really sounds noble here. Each person is to decide what is right or wrong for them. George is promoting anarchy, but he does it with the most noblest of words: you are fine, I am fine. Did you notice that he is not fine with you (something about your shoes) and that being the case, you are probably not fine with him.
    George, shouldn't we decide what is truth and stick with that, rather than each of us deciding by ourselves what is truth for us and what is truth for tomorrow and next year and some one else?
    George you come across much more nobler, when you just stand there and say nothing.
    Incidentally, George made a living as comedian. It gets worse, a political comedian. "I can see clearly now ..." the singer sang.

    "My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness."
    Dalai Lama XIV
    Lhamo Döndrub, he became the leader of Buddhism at the age of 2. He was enthroned as the ruler of Tibet at 15.
    To say that his religion is simply kindness indicates that there is no spirituality at all. Everything is up to him and his ability to be kind. Yet to take over a religion at 2 years of age, indicates a spirituality of some sort in control and guiding the events of man. This only leaves Lhamo as god. Which is exactly what the Buddhists believe. We should all be working our way to becoming a god, kindness givers. Sounds good on the surface, but yet the Bible says that the very best we can do is as filthy rags. And by experience, my own and with others, I know this to be true. This means that this "becoming gods", is not coming along too well.
    Steve Andres

    "I think it's perfectly possible to explain how the universe came about without bringing God into it, but I don't know everything, and there may well be a God somewhere, hiding away. Actually, if he is keeping out of sight, it's because he's ashamed of his followers and all the cruelty and ignorance they're responsible for promoting in his name. If I were him, I'd want nothing to do with them."
    Philip Pullman
    We are sure that Philip was very proud of the above quote, it may have taken him a few hours to pen it. He was correct in at least the part where he claimed ignorance. But to go on and state that God is hiding, when I see Him everywhere goes beyond ignorance to being pitiable.
    Though God is ashamed of Christians, there is no doubt. But His love goes beyond all of man's errors to giving Himself for man.
    Lastly, we are so glad that Philip is not God. Philip gives up so easily. Philip wants nothing to do with us sinners. Does Philip put himself above us, in not wanting anything to do with us? If so, he certainly has dimmed any light he may have received and we hope he has not wasted too much time in musing over other quotes.

    It has been over 112 years, now, since Fredrich has discovered the majesty of God and His judgment on the unforgiven. If he could address us today in one of his famous lectures, he would freely confess that there is a God, who is justified in demanding praise.

    "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."  Proverbs 4:23
    Do not hold back with any diligence in guarding your heart. The heart effects everything else in life. A few were sorry for what had happened, but very few realized how it happened, so some of those who followed them, fell into the same pit.

We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us."

    The water is wide, I cannot get oer

    She's loaded deep as deep can be
    But not so deep as the love I'm in
    I know not if I sink or swim

    I leaned my back against an oak

    Every scientist who has ever lived has uttered this single phrase a great deal more than once: "I used to believe ..."  They say this to prove their advanced and advancing knowledge.  But their statement betrays their knowledge.  Whatever they insist on today as being truth, is simply a refinement or editing of what they used to believe the day before.  So, tomorrow they will have a new truth that they will insist is the last word on the subject.
    They all speak with the most definite authority, but all have a change in belief at one point in time or another.  Notice the word "belief", not facts.  Facts do not change.

    Concession, Conciliation

    Babel's Fallen!
    Babylon, Confusion, Conspired Error

    1. Babel’s walls, so long obscuring
      All the ways of truth and right,
      Crumble now before the shining
      Of the glorious evening light.
    2. Now are Zion’s walls erected,
      And her watchmen fear the Lord;
      From the heights of full salvation
      Loud proclaim His holy word.
    3. Oft they told us that no mortal
      Could enjoy this perfect peace;
      But we’ve found a full fruition,
      And the year of sweet release.
    4. Hail the day of heav’nly freedom!
      Though so long has been the night,
      Brighter seems the radiant splendor
      As we reach the evening light.

      Babel’s fallen, hallelujah!
      Hear the saints in chorus sing;
      From the summit of Mount Zion,
      Hear their glad hosannas ring.

    O! For a Perfect Trust

    "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee."
    Isaiah 26:3

    O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
       My loving God, in Thee;
    Unwavering faith that never doubts
       Thou choosiest best for me.

    Best, though my plans be all upset;
       Best though my way be rough;
    Best, though my earthly store be scant;
       In Thee I have enough.

    Best, though my health and strength be gone;
       Though weary days be mine;
    Shut out from much that others have;
       Not my will, Lord, but Thine.

    And e'en though disappointments come,
       They, too, are best for me
    To wean me from this changing world
       And lead me nearer Thee.

    O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
       That looks away from all;
    That sees Thy hand in everything,
      In great events and small.

    That hears Thy voice — a Father's voice —
      Directing for the best —
    O! for the peace of a perfect trust,
       A heart with Thee at rest.

    Hard Work, Worth
    Value is derived from the effort provided.
    Since beauty is natural, there is no value added to the owner.
    Since talent comes with birth, there is no room for the holder to boast.

    A Beautiful Life
    (Public Domain)

    Each day I’ll do a golden deed,
    By helping those who are in need;
    My life on earth is but a span,
    And so I’ll do the best I can.

    To be a child of God each day,
    My light must shine along the way;
    I’ll sing His praise while ages roll,
    And strive to help some troubled soul.

    The only life that will endure,
    Is one that’s kind and good and pure;
    And so for God I’ll take my stand,
    Each day I’ll lend a helping hand.

    I’ll help someone in time of need,
    And journey on with rapid speed;
    I’ll help the sick and poor and weak,
    And words of kindness to them speak.

    While going down life’s weary road,
    I’ll try to lift some trav’ler’s load;
    I’ll try to turn the night to day,
    Make flowers bloom along the way.

    • Refrain:
      Life’s evening sun is sinking low,
      A few more days, and I must go
      To meet the deeds that I have done,
      Where there will be no setting sun.

    Political Philosophies Explained
    * Feudalism: You have 2 cows, the lord takes some of the milk.
    * Pure Socialism: You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and puts them in a barn with the cows of others.  The government gives you some of the milk.
    * Bureaucratic Socialism: You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and puts them in a barn with the cows of others.  They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers.  You care for the chickens taken from the chicken farmers.  You receive milk and eggs according to regulations.
    * Fascism:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes both and hires you to care for them and sells you the milk.
    * Russian Communism:  You have 2 cows.  You care for them, but the government takes the milk.
    * Dictatorship:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes both and shoots you.
    * Representative Democracy:  You have 2 cows.  Your neighbors vote on a person to tell you what to do with the milk.
    * British Democracy:  You have 2 cows.  You feed them sheep's brains and they go mad and the government doesn't do anything.
    * Bureaucracy:  You have 2 cows.  At first, the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them.  Then it pays you not to milk them.  Then it takes both cows and shoots one, milks the other, but pours out the milk.  Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows.
    * Capitalism:  You have 2 cows.  You sell one and buy a bull.
    * Totalitarianism:  You have 2 cows.  The government takes them and denies they ever existed.  Bans milk.
    * Environmentalism:  You have 2 cows.  The government bans you from milking them or killing them or using the fertilizer.
    * Surrealism:  You have 2 giraffes.  The government requires you to take accordion lessons and forbids the sale of your 2 cows.
    * Counterculturism:  Wow, dude, there's like ... these 2 cows, man.  This is like, wild, where milk comes from.
    * Hong Kong Capitalism:  You have 2 cows.  You sell 3 of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law, then execute a debt equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all 4 cows back, with tax deduction for keeping 5 cows.  The milk rights of 6 cows are transferred via a Panamanian intermediary to a Cayman Islands company secretly owned by the majority stock holder, who sells the rights to all 7 cows' milk back to the listed company.  They now have all 8 cows with an option for one more.

    You May Be A Redneck If . . .
    * You think the Stock Market has a fence around it.
    * Your coffee table is an old cable spool.
    * Your mother has "ammo" on her Christmas list.
    * You burn your front yard, rather than mow it.
    * Fewer than half your cars run.
    * You have been kicked out of the zoo for heckling the monkeys.
    * Your dog and your wallet are both on a chain.
    * You think tooth paste is for gluing teeth back together.

    Thankfulness, Robbery
    On the very night that Matthew Henry was robbed, he prayed this prayer ...
    "I thank Thee,
    FIRST, because I was never robbed before;
    SECOND, because although they took my money,
    they did not take my life;
    THIRD, because although they took my all, it was not much;
    FOURTH, because it was I who was robbed and not I who was doing the robbing.
    Matthew Henry

    The Fields are white unto Harvest
    If all the lost people of the world were to line up single file ...
    The line would reach around the world 30 times.
    The line would grow at the rate of 20 miles per day.
    If you should attempt to drive 50 miles per hour, 10 hours per day, it would take you 4 years and 40 days to get to the end of that line. But, by the time you reached the end of that line, it would have gotten 30,000 miles longer.
    The need of the lost is to be saved, the way they are multiplying, we had better get busy.

    Who in the dark and silent grave,
    When we have wandered all our ways,
    Shuts up the story of our days.
    And from which earth, and grave, and dust,
    The Lord shall raise me up, I trust.

    God's or Man's Books
    There are two books laid before us to study, to prevent our falling into error; first, the volume of Scriptures, which reveal the will of God; then the volume of the Creatures, which express His power.

    What Will You Leave?
    In 1626, Sir Francis Bacon wrote in his Last Will and Testament :
    I bequeath my soul to God ... My body to be buried obscurely. For my name and memory, I leave it to men's charitable speeches, and to foreign nations, and the next age.

    Education Changes the Owner
    One's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains it's original dimensions.
    Oliver Wendell Holmes

    It is better to be divided by truth than united by error.

    It is better to speak the truth that hurts, that hurts then heals, than a lie that comforts then kills.

    It is better to be hated for telling the truth, than loved for telling a lie.

    It is better to hear tough or rough truth than tender or polished lies.

    It is better to stand alone for the truth than stand with a crowd in a lie.

    Christian Founders
    It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on the religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  For this very reason people of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here."

    Idols, Icons, Statues
    Spiritual Idolatry is
    * preaching your own convictions
    * wishing God were different
    * doing right for the approval of others.
    G. Steven Andres

    To the Israelites, Goliath is “too big to hit”; but to little David he is “too big to miss.”

    About the only thing that comes to him who waits is whiskers.

    The trouble with an opportunity is that is more recognizable going than it is coming.

    You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

    Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off the goal.

    Whatever your lot in life, why don’t you try to build something on it?

    Some people fail to recognize opportunity because it so often comes to them in overalls and looks like work.

    Preaching, Bored, Stirring, Inspirational
    No sermon is dull that cuts the heart.

    Every sermon should have a train of thought, but it should also have a terminus.

    If you preach what is new, it won’t be true.  If you preach what is true, it won’t be new.

    When a preacher cannot get fire into his sermon, he should put his heart on fire.

    Don’t be squeamish in the pulpit-like one who said, “Jonah was three days and three nights in-ahem-the society of the fish.”

    When preaching:
    * to be heard is good
    * to be understood is better
    * to inspire is best
    G. Steven Andres

    I always like to act according to Cobbett’s rule: “I speak not only so that I can be understood, but so that I cannot be misunderstood.”

    To be an effective preacher,
    * be scriptural
    * be sincere
    * be simple
    * be short
    * be seated.

    If you can smile while you skin them and make them smile while they are being skinned, they will follow you to the tannery to get the hide.
    Sam Jones

    The best ingredient in most sermons is shortening.

    The preacher needs
    * the head of a scholar
    * the heart of a child
    * the hide of a rhinoceros

    A preacher who was in the habit of writing his sermons out carefully found himself at church one Sunday morning without his manuscript. “As I have forgotten my notes,” he began his sermon, “I will have to rely on the Lord for guidance. Tonight I shall come better prepared.

    Put a giraffe in the pulpit and the lambs will starve to death.

    There are some men who preach so well when in the pulpit, that it is a shame they should ever come out of it; and when they are out of it, they live so silly that it is a shame they should ever enter it again.
    Charles Wesley

    One man remarked to his pastor, “Every sermon you preach is better than the next one.”
    Re-read this.

    Someone suggested, “If you don’t strike oil in thirty minutes, stop boring.”

    A Christian minister once said, “I was never of any use until I found out that God did not intend me to be a ‘great man.’”

    When liberty was offered to John Bunyan, then in prison, on condition of abstaining from preaching, he consistently replied, “If you let me out today, I shall preach again tomorrow.”

    The young unknown preacher, speaking for his first time in a big conference, said, “I feel like a ‘Who’s he?’ in a group of ‘Who’s Who?’”

    Once in seven years I burn all my sermons; for it is a shame if I cannot write a better sermon now than I did seven years ago.
    John Wesley.

    There is a hatred which is downright charity; that is the hatred of erroneous doctrine.  There is an intolerance which is downright praiseworthy; that is the intolerance of false doctrine in the pulpit.
    Bishop J.C. Ryle.

    Someone reminded me that all my sermons have happy endings and then explained, “Everybody is happy when you finish.”

    Billy Sunday used to say, “Put the cookies on the lower shelf so everybody can reach them.”

    One Sunday morning a lady said to the pastor, “I did not like your sermon this morning,” to which he replied, “Neither did the Devil. Classify yourself and come back next Sunday.”

    No sermon is ever quite a success which leaves men satisfied with themselves.

    The preacher’s opening remark was, “I feel like the lightning bug who backed into the fan.  I’m delighted to be here!”

    One preacher said, “I am bad to exaggerate.  As a matter of fact, I have cried a bucket of tears over it!”

    Dr. James Gray, when asked, “Where did you get that sermon?” replied, “I admit I milked twenty-one cows, but I made my own butter.”

    When a man shoots above the heads of the congregation, it doesn’t prove he has superior ammunition; it only proves he has a bad aim.

    Wesley, when once asked how he got the crowds, replied, “I set myself on fire, and people come to see me burn.”

    Patience is accepting a difficult situation without giving God a deadline to remove it.
    Bill Gothard

    Patience is the ability to put up with what you want to put down.

    Staying power
    The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time.
    Abraham Lincoln

    The ability to idle your motor when you feel like stripping your gears.

    Yard by yard is mighty hard, but inch by inch is a cinch.

    Blessed is the man who expects nothing, for he will never be disappointed.

    It seems that people always play up the bad side of things.  Have you ever seen a sign reading “NICE DOG.”

    The pessimist says, “If I don’t try, I can’t fail.”  The optimist says, “If I don’t try, I can’t win.”

    “I hear you have a good crop of potatoes this year, Mrs. Higgins.  That must cheer your heart,” said the neighbor.  “Aye, they’re good enough, but where’s the bad’uns to feed the pigs?”

    A pessimist is one who blows out the candle to see how dark it is.

    Bright Side, Optimism
    I like the optimist who fell out the window of the 20th story floor and was heard to say as he passed the 2nd floor, “Safe so far!”

    A pessimist is one who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a casket.

    Definition of a pessimist:  A man who has swallowed an egg; afraid to move for fear it will break; afraid to sit still for fear the thing will hatch.

    The bald-headed optimist went into the drug store and asked for some hair restorer.  When he started to leave, he said, “Oh, and by the way, I’ll take two combs, also.”

    A pessimist is someone whose daydreams are nightmares.

    Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society.  The optimist invents the airplane and the pessimist invents the parachute.

    The spirit of optimism is the spirit that makes the tea kettle sing even when it is up to its neck in hot water!

    The worst pest in the world is a pessimist.

    Somebody said, “An optimist is the fellow who takes the cold water thrown on his ideas, heats it with enthusiasm, makes steam and pushes ahead.”

    Pessimism:  Looking at the world through woe-colored glasses.

    One lady who complained about everything said, “I always feel bad even when I feel good because I know I’ll feel bad again after while.”

    A wise prayer:
    “Lord, fill my mouth with worthwhile stuff
    and nudge me when I’ve said enough.

    When Jesus prayed in public, His prayers were always short.  But when He prayed alone, His prayers were longer.  On one occasion He continued all night to God in prayer.

    Take no rest from prayer, and give him no rest.

    If you have so much business to attend to that you have no time to pray, you have more business on hand than God ever intended you should have.

    God may be out of sight, but He is certainly not out of reach:  He is only a prayer away.

    Anchor yourself to the throne of God, then shorten the rope.

    The best place to pray for potatoes is on the end of a hoe handle.
    Bud Robinson

    One man, praying, said, “Lord, I haven’t prayed in forty years; and if You’ll answer my prayer this time, I won’t bother You again for another forty years.”

    When we work, we get what we can do; but when we pray, we get what God can do.

    “I was not looking at the little in hand, but at the fullness of God,” said Mueller when his needs were great and the supply small.

    Pray for a poor memory when people seem unkind.

    Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure.
    D.L. Moody

    Pray I the key to open the day and the bolt to shut in the night.
    Bishop Taylor

    The possibilities of prayer exceed our ability to ask or even think (Eph. 3:20).

    Groanings that cannot be uttered are often prayers which cannot be refused.

    True prayer should be a way of life, not just a case of emergency.

    I am sometimes startled at the power of a feeble prayer to win a speedy answer.

    Some folks are like the little boy who, when asked by his pastor if he prayed every day, replied, "No, not every day.  Some days I don’t want anything.”

    Pray a definite prayer for a definite thing, meet definite conditions, exercise definite faith, and God will give a definite answer.

    Prayer is something more than asking God to run errands for us.

    If prayer will help me out of trouble, it will surely help me to keep out of trouble.

    When we pray for rain, we must be willing to put up with some mud.

    If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies; yet the distance makes no difference—He is praying for me.

    To pray bout something and not make ourselves available is hypocrisy.

    Prayer is no substitute for duty.

    Prayer is measured by depth, not length!

    Nothing is discussed more and practiced less than prayer.

    A Christian does good deeds, but just doing good deeds does not make a man a Christian.
    Bob Jones, Sr

    God is in the cleansing business, not the whitewashing business.

    Absolute dependence on what God has done equals salvation; absolute dependence on what God has said equals assurance.

    The religions of the world say, “do and live.”  The religion of the Bible says, “live and do.”
    Bob Jones, Sr

    Religion is the best armor a man can have, but it is the worst cloak.
    John Bunyan

    Free Will
    Although God created man without man’s help, He will not save man without man’s consent.

    We don’t go to Heaven head first but heart first.
    Tom Malone, Sr.

    It is just as easy to climb to Heaven from a molehill as it is from the top of Mount Everest.  You can do neither.

    You don’t spell salvation “D-O.”  You spell it “D-O-N-E.”

    Deathbed repentance is burning the candle of life in the service of the Devil, then blowing the smoke into the face of God.
    Billy Sunday

    Better never to have been born at all, than never to have been born again.

    Most anybody can put a new suit of clothes on a man, but only God can put a new man in a suit of clothes.

    Justification is something that cannot be reversed and followed by damnation.

    If we put off repentance another day, we have a day more to repent of, and a day less to repent in.

    Trying to earn salvation by our goodness is like putting a drop of perfume in an ocean of filth.

    I don’t know I’m saved because I feel good; I know I’m saved because the Bible says so; and I feel good because I know I’m saved. Bob Jones, Sr.

    Soul Winning
    Salvation may come in quietly, but few people can keep quiet about it.

    The salvation that Jesus Christ purchased for a lost world is wonderful in its magnitude.  It is as deep as fallen humanity, as broad as the compassion of God, as high as Heaven, and as everlasting as the eternal Rock of Ages.
    Uncle Bud Robinson

    You have not been high-born until you have been born from on High.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    Many who expect to be saved in the eleventh hour die at ten-thirty.

    Asking and Receiving
    Christ knocks at my door here, and I knock at His door over there.  If I open to Him here, He will open to me over there.  Isn’t that fair?
    Uncle Bud Robinson

    Fools, Foolishness
    Under the Constitution of the United States every man has the right to make a fool of himself as he sees fit.

    Many people believe that admitting a fault means they no longer have to correct it.

    Don’t go around with a chip on your shoulder—people might think it came off your head.

    Selfishness, Lazy
    When we expect more of others than we expect of ourselves, we are in a state of carnality.

    Your Father the Devil, Your Father in Heaven?
    What you are is not nearly as important as whose you are.

    Self always wants to be crowned, but God says you must be crucified.

    Remembrances, Thankfulness
    He who forgets his friend is ungrateful to him, but he who forgets his Saviour is unmerciful to himself.

    Confessing your sins is no substitute for forsaking them.

    “No man has a right to do as he pleases, except when he pleases to do right.”
    Charles Simmons

    When a man won’t listen to his conscience, it’s usually because he doesn’t want advice from a total stranger.

    The Greeks said, “Know thyself.”  The Romans said, “Control thyself.”  Christ said, “Deny thyself.”

    Who has deceived thee so oft as thyself?
    Benjamin Franklin

    If a hypocrite is between you and Heaven, then he’s closer to Heaven than you are.

    Big shots are small shots who keep on shooting.

    Many people are suffering from self-inflicted wounds.

    I have never met a man who has given me as much trouble as myself.
    D.L. Moody

    Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.
    Leo Tolstoy

    I always like to hear a man talk about himself, because then I never hear anything but good.
    Will Rogers

    One man complained, “I am the kind of person who, if it were raining soup, I would be standing there with a fork.”

    He who falls in love with himself is not apt to have much competition.

    It is all right to talk with yourself, but you are in trouble when you start asking questions.

    I like to talk to myself for two reasons.  First, I like to hear intelligent people talk; and second, I like to talk to intelligent people.
    John R. Rice

    Some people think they are big shots just because they explode with a loud noise!

    No man who thinks in terms of catching mice will ever catch lions.

    Give some people an inch, and they think they are rulers.

    We are all dangerous a fold without God’s controlling hand.
    William Ward Ayer

    The will of God will never lead us where the grace of God is inadequate to keep us.

    “You can never do more than your duty,” said Robert E. Lee,  “and you should never wish to do less.”

    Service can never become slavery to one who loves.
    J.L. Massee

    If God has called you, do not spend time looking over your shoulder to see who is following.

    It is more important to be than to do.  You can do without being but you can’t be without doing.

    Serve for the good you can do, not for the praise you get.

    The higher you rise in the likeness of Jesus, the lower you will stoop in your service for others.

    Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.

    The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.

    Slight not what’s near while aiming at what’s far.

    The most important light in the house is not the chandelier in the parlor.  It’s that little back hall light that keeps you from breaking your neck when you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    The best ability is availability.

    Have your tools ready; God will find you work.
    Gospel Message

    Reward for Christian service is based on faithfulness to opportunity given.

    He who serves God for money will serve the Devil for higher wages.

    The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent upon it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as it had nothing else in the universe to do.

    The measure of your responsibilities is a measure of your opportunities.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    The real tragedy of life is not in being limited to one talent, but in the failure to use the one talent.

    What a big difference there is between giving advice and lending a hand!

    A good rule to follow:  give God the first part of every day, the first day of every week, and the first part of your income.

    God never puts any man in a place too small to grown in.

    Our Lord was a willing Saviour, and He uses only willing servants.

    Power of God
    God doesn’t call the fit; he fits the called.

    Place Value Correctly
    When the good takes the place of the best, even the good becomes bad.

    We need the eagerness to serve like that of a hunting dog awaiting a chase.

    Acting Out Sin
    Temptation is not a sin.  It only becomes a sin when it is yielded to.  Even our Lord was tempted.

    God Limits Himself
    Stay away from the precipice!  You can’t alter the inevitable!  If you lean too far out of the window, they’ll call the coroner!  If you eat salt herring, even the grace of God won’t keep you from being thirsty!  Eat raw onions, and even the grace of God won’t give you the sweet breath of a baby!  Some things are INEVITABLE.

    You can find the world’s shortest sermon on a thousand traffic signs:  KEEP RIGHT.
    Amarillo News

    God Limits Himself
    God will lower the gate of warning, sound the bell, flash the red light, but He won’t keep you from crossing the tracts.

    Transfer of Power
    We gain the strength of the temptation we resist.

    God Changes the Heart
    Sin is a heart disease than can only be permanently remedied by the Great Physician.

    The lust of the flesh is a consuming desire to do.  The lust of the eyes is a compelling urge to have.  The pride of life is a constant thrust to be.

    Common Sense
    When in doubt play safe.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    Christ died for sin; the believer dies to sin; the unbeliever dies in sin.
    D.L. Moody

    The disease of an evil conscience is beyond the practice of all the physicians of all the countries in the world.
    W.E. Gladstone

    A ship is safe in the ocean as long as the ocean is not in the ship.  And a Christian is safe in the world so long as the world is not in the Christian.

    By yielding to temptation, one may lose in a moment what it took him a lifetime to gain.

    Acknowledgement, Results
    A prisoner mending his trousers was asked, “Are you sewing”, “No,” he replied, “I’m reaping.”

    Whosoever sows to the flesh must pluck the thistles of his own sowing.  He will be thrashed, scratched and bruised by the thorns of his own misdeeds.

    Without Honor
    Sin in a Christian’s life makes a coward of him.

    Christ cannot reign in the parlor of our hearts
    while we entertain the Devil in the cellar of our thoughts.

    One of the worst things about sin for the Christian is that it weakens our moral and spiritual resistance.

    Payday, Results
    Sin: a moment of gratification; an eternity of remorse.

    It is easier to suppress the first desire than to satisfy all that follow it.

    Sowing and Reaping
    Wild oats need no fertilizer.

    Clear Conscience
    A gash in the conscience may disfigure a soul forever.

    Bad things in life are enjoyed first and paid for later, but good things in life are paid for first, then later enjoyed.

    Right is right, even if everyone is against it; and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.

    No one can honestly or hopefully be delivered from temptation unless he has himself honestly and firmly determined to do the best he can to keep out of it.

    Sin Stains
    You cannot think dirty, you cannot talk dirty, you  cannot act dirty-and be clean!

    Temptations, when first we meet them, are as a lion that roared upon Samson, but if we overcome them, the next time we see them, we shall find a nest of honey within.
    John Bunyan

    The time is never right to do a wrong thing.

    Sin is Never Discounted
    One thing to be sure of – there will be no reduction in the wages of sin.

    To explain why you backslide does not justify it.

    Narrow, Straight Path
    Some people have yet to learn that they cannot travel in the wrong direction and reach the right destination.

    Sin will expose itself
    The Devil always gets out a few extra copies when a saint goes wrong.

    If we cover our sin, God will uncover it; if we uncover it to God, He will cover it with His blood.

    Try Your Best
    It is a sin to do less than your best.
    Bob Jones, Sr.

    Better shun the bait than struggle in the snare.

    The further a man goes in lust  and iniquity, the more dead he becomes to purity and holiness.  He loses the power to appreciate the beauties of virtue or to be disgusted with abominations of vice.

    Where modesty is absent, virtue has no means of protection.

    Forgiveness, Forsake
    Sin must be dealt with in one of two ways – punishment or pardon.

    Do not blame God for the harvest when you do the sowing.

    Follow the Lord, never follow your heart
    Follow love, never follow like
    Follow clear thinking, never follow fear
    Follow the truth,
    * never follow opinion
    * never follow the crowd
    * never follow appearances
    * never follow fashion
    Follow forbearance, never follow vengeance
    Follow consistency, never follow whim
    Follow decisiveness, never follow uncertainty
    G. Steven Andres
