Victory
Over Sin - With Spirituality

To live and work for the right reasons ...
Living Spiritually for Victory

Victory in the area of  Spirituality
Spiritual Victory is obtained in one area at a time.  Spirituality is obtaining a communion or fellowship with God in one area at a time.

Walk

Gal 5:16  "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

Spirituality is Walking with God

Rest

Heb 4:9  "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God."
Heb 4:10  "For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his."

Spirituality is resting in God

Abiding

John 15:4  "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me."
John 15:5  "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
John 15:6  "If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned."
John 15:7  "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."

Spirituality is abiding in God.
Spirituality cannot be mustered up or conjured up.
Spirituality is a communion or fellowship with Jesus Christ.

Dependency

2 Cor 3:4  "And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:"
2 Cor 3:5  "Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;"

Spirituality
* is not prayer
* is not Bible reading
* is not tithing
* is not Church Membership
* is not separation
* is not etc.
But Spirituality leads us to do all the above, giving us real Victory.
Many of the cults do much of the above, but are not Spiritual.

The cults cannot
* walk with the Lord, they are not saved
* rest in Christ, they are not saved
* abide in Christ, they are not saved.

Many saved folks are not Spiritual.
Some attempt to ...
* pray without walking with the Lord
* read their Bible without resting in the Lord
* separate without abiding in the Lord
* walk in their own strength without the grace of God

Victory in the area of Prayer
(Light review of what already has been said about prayer )

An Example of prayer.
This is not the prayer we are to repeat over and over again, but the model prayer to pattern our prayer life.

Mat 6:9  After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven,

Pray to the Father.
We pray to the Father, through the Son with the help and power of the Holy Ghost.

Hallowed be thy name.

Praise or worship the Father.

Mat 6:10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Ask according to the Father's will, not ours.

Mat 6:11  Give us this day our daily bread.

Ask for your daily needs.
You may live on a weekly check, ask for your weekly needs.

Mat 6:12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Forgive others, to receive forgiveness.

Mat 6:13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

Ask for guidance.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Rejoice in Him being the Father.

Victory in the area of Temptation
Preparation to keep Temptation away.

Mat 26:41  "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Not entering into Temptation.
We do not watch and pray to the Lord to keep us from entering into Temptation, but the activity of watching and praying for others keeps Temptation away.

When Temptation comes we must realize:

1 Cor 10:13  "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: ..."

Every temptation we have is common to everyone.

"... but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; ..."

But God will not allow us to be tempted above our capacity.
If we think we have been overly tempted, we have misjudged what we can take.  We have also, misjudged the Lord.

"... but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, ..."

God will use the tempting to build us up.

"when I am weak, then am I strong"

Escape the confines of what we were to the liberty of victory over temptation.

"... that ye may be able to bear it."

We are not removed from the tempting
But are given strength to go through it.

Ridding ourselves of Temptation
1. Resist the temptation of the world
Be separate from the world
2. Resist the temptation of the flesh
Die to the old self
3. Resist the temptation of the devil

James 4:7  "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

4. Being confessed up, allows us to be in communication with the Lord.  Then with His help, guidance and grace (power) we can do the right thing.

Phil 4:13  "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

The Greatest of Temptations is to Wish them away
Friday, July 26, 1996

To wish away the blowing snow

Is to banish next Summer's well.

Disdaining method, God bestown

Is foolishness, any muse can tell.

We are tempted to cut short the heat

That follows every Spring.

But to not regard the wisdom of the Wise

Is hating noise, but loving bell to ring.

Would the kite wish away the wind

That pulls and whips and troubles?

No!  It's the same that lifts to glory

Making existence acceptable.

Would the waterfall complain about

The wetness of its feet?

Not at all, it is the water

That makes the sight so sweet.

The skillet would n'er become

The critic of the fire.

How could it e'er lay low

The means to produce or sire.

Never would the hair voice against

The tugging, up-rooting brush.

'Cause the thrashing of the spiny-comb

Is the means to make it lush.

Likewise with the suffering saint

Who is tempted by what's tough.

He'll n'er murmur o'er the trial

To mature with Jesus, is worth rebuff.

So when it's uphill and you must carry

your load and theirs, too.

Don't fling-in-the-face the burden too soon,

It's God-allowed to mature you.

Victory in the areas of False Teachers  & Prophets
Anyone can be in error, but no one is allowed to teach it.  When trying to help others, we sometimes receive back answers or even other questions.  How do we know who we should spend time to help and who should we shun?

New Christians often have unscriptural notions and opinions.
There is no problem with anyone being wrong about something.  The problem arrives when some begin to tell others untruths.
Examples of false teachers and false prophets
* Cults
* Many radio preachers
* Many TV preachers
* Books written to sell, not inform of the truth
* Church-hopping Christians
* Etc.

How do we know who we can help and who is just another false preacher or teacher?
*
Those that are teachable are helped and can help others.
* Those that are not teachable are not helped and cannot help others.
No one has "arrived".  If they will not listen and learn, they are either into false teaching already or soon will be.

All are welcome
Anyone can come and listen to the preaching and teaching of the church.  Only those that proclaim the program of the church may do the preaching and teaching.

Victory in the area of Ministry Involvement
Seek out the needs of the local Church and express your willingness to commit to these needs to the Pastor, then exercise yourself under his direction.

This is vital.
* Church Ministry should be a committal.
* Church Ministry should be directed toward others.
* Church Ministry should be loving others in the service of the Lord.
* Church Ministry should be done by all.
* Church Ministry should be the winning of souls as ministry is conducted.

No soul winning
* No real ministry.
* Just social reform.

Church Program
The program of the Church is the plain teaching of the Bible.
* Not what one or some believe.
* Not what one or some suppose.
* Not necessarily what denominations teach .
* Not what is voted upon.
Only vote on the business of the Church, never doctrine.
* Not proclaiming obscure verses or passages.
But only what can easily and plainly be backed up by the entire Scripture.  If it can only be proven by a single passage, it should not be given much air time.

Leadership
Only those that are practicing the program of the Church, may supervise others in Church Ministry.

Outside the Church there is no ministry.
Christ instituted only one organization, the local Church.  Work done outside the Church is not ministry of the Church, but some kind of personal business or entertainment or education, etc.
