Prayer does not
save
Just because a person prays the Sinner's Prayer with tears in their
eyes, does not mean they are
saved. God looks on the heart,
while men can only look on the exterior.
Sincerity does
not save
Very sincere people arrive in eternal punishment daily. Some are
sincerely wrong about who the Saviour is, how to be
saved and even
when they seem to have all this correct, they may sincerely miss, if
God sees differently in their heart.
A
Changed Heart Is Proof of Salvation
When a person is
saved, God gives them a new heart,
changed heart.
This
changed heart is solid proof of salvation to the person with
the
changed heart. It is not proof to anyone else. Many
who seem to have a
changed heart are not
saved. Many who do
not seem to have a
changed heart are not
saved. Only God and
the new heart know.
Profession
is not Possession
Persons saying they are
saved may be, but they may not be.
Persons who have been
saved will surely arrive in Heaven one day,
not necessarily those saying they are
saved.
How
do We Know if a Person Is Saved?
Many will quote the Bible ...
"by their fruits ye shall know them"
Of course the Bible is always true and is true in this case as well. But, read the Bible in context. I know this is an age old adage, but still people will not read the Bible in context.
The following is the passage in reference.
Matt 7:15 ¶ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
The passage is speaking about False Prophets. People who speak for God. Not the person in the pew or pool hall.
Matt 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
You will know Prophets by their fruits.
Matt 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Every good Prophet will bring forth good fruit. Bad Prophets bring forth bad fruit.
Matt 7:18-19 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
False Prophets will be known by their fruit and will be found for who they are.
Matt 7:20-23 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
False Prophets often declare false prophecies and perform miraculously, but God does not know them.
Matt 7:24-27 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Those who hear this about False Prophets and react appropriately are wise. Those who do not are foolish and their fall will be great.
We can know False Prophets (high profile, very vocal people) by their fruit. The everyday person in the pew or pub is not so easy to know.
What Should We Do?
Tell everyone, everywhere about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
When they say they are already saved, ask, "Where did you get saved?" Asking where, rather than how, cuts to the chase a little quicker. If still not satisfied and they are cooperative, ask if they got the change. If they are not saved, they now know they are not and they know the evidence.
